You're Not Too Far Gone to Be Restored

When something wears out, our instinct is to replace it. Psalm 126 offers a different picture, and this week Will Sopwith closed our summer "Restored" series on it. He unpacks joy as something you can't talk yourself into, only grow into, and then three everyday pictures of restoration, the old chair stripped back to the wood, the oil painting cleaned of years of grime, the relationship rebuilt slowly. In each one, someone looks past the damage to what the thing could be again. It's a picture, Will suggests, of how God sees people, and of why Christians say their hope is in Jesus the restorer.
